A Spider's Point of View

I was spinning a silk web
In the corner of the wall
When I heard some heavy footsteps
Coming down the hall.
The door opened, a girl entered
She turned on the light.
I wonder if she'll notice me?
Who knows? She might.
I watched as she picked up a book
And sat down in a chair
And started flipping through the pages.
I couldn't help but stare.
After awhile she put down the book
And I watched in fascination
And she started on (what humans call) homework
Of division and multiplication.
Suddenly she put down her pencil
And looked directly at me.
She ran out of the room, returned with a fly swatter.
Uh-oh! I'd better flee.
I ran on the wall as fast as I could
And although I really tried
She managed to hit me in a single swing.
And then- guess what - I died.
This all happened two days ago
At exactly half past seven.
But really it isn't so bad up here
High in spider heaven.
